The Inauguration Dress

So yesterday, we traveled down to the mall with what felt like half of the country for the Obama inauguration. I could probably write a book about the ineptitude and surliness of the soldiers, about the appalling lack of respect of the spectators, or my own shock that Rick Warren had the gall to pronounce this a country of freedom and equality. This is not the time or the place for that, though. Let's bring it down a level and talk about clothes.

I'm thrilled that the days of stuffy first lady frocks and suits have gone the way of the Dodo. Finally! We have a first lady who takes risks! Someone who believes that colors other than black, navy, and red exist! Michelle Obama's fashion sense is, for me, pretty hit-or-miss though.

Then there's the jeans... oh you poor thing. I understand that it's hard to find that perfect pair, but this woman seems positively incapable of finding jeans that fit her properly.

But, I have to give it to the first lady for her inaugural dress. I know it's gold, but on the jumbotrons, it looked fabulously, boldly, unapologetically, chartreuse. 

...and to me, it always will be. And now I simply must make myself a chartreuse suit.
